Real Estate and Community Development | Supportive Housing

Las Raices

Las Raices is an affordable housing development in East Harlem, New York, created through a partnership between Ascendant Neighborhood Development and MDG Design and Construction. The project includes four newly constructed buildings with 78 income-restricted apartments —12 of which are reserved for formerly homeless individuals—and 10,000 square feet of community space. Named “Las Raices” (“The Roots”) to reflect the neighborhood’s cultural legacy, the development prioritizes long-term affordability and community identity.

The buildings incorporate green roofs, energy-efficient systems, and flood resilient design. Adjacent community gardens will receive upgrades through partnerships with local gardeners, and a new three-story facility will house Opus Dance Theater, promoting arts and cultural programming in the neighborhood.
